The Phrase Book: Sincere Commendation In Conversation

Conversation is not just speaking, it’s listening.  It’s important, in fact, to listen intently to the views and ideas of your interlocutor.  All of us want to feel appreciated, valued, important.  So, when my dialogue partner says something worthy of note, I want to be able to say something more interesting than my usual “oh, cool” or “interesting.”  Of course, I want it to be sincere, too.  People seem to be able to pick up quickly on disingenuousness. Here, then, is the phrase I’m currently considering:

“A most extraordinary idea!”
